China's annual national college entrance exam, known as the gaokao in Chinese, began on Sunday, with 12.9 million test-takers sitting the exam nationwide this year.
A total of 348,000 exam rooms have been set up at 7,981 sites across the country, all monitored by the command center for the crucial exam at the National Education Examinations Authority.
As the exam coincided with rainy weather in regions across China, local authorities deployed first responders to set up special lanes to ensure that test-takers could safely enter the exam sites.
Authorities have also prepared emergency supplies for possible flooding conditions while conducting thorough inspections in road sections and areas adjacent to the exam sites to identify and eliminate potential safety hazards in advance.
This year's college entrance exam also features convenient service for the over 14,000 disabled examinees to sit the exam, such as braille test papers especially prepared for seven totally blind test-takers in five of the 31 provincial-level regions across the Chinese mainland.
