At least 45 people were killed, 17 missing and 487 injured after a magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck off the southern coast of Mindanao, the Philippines, on Monday, said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Wednesday.

The council said the quake has affected more than 33,000 households, or nearly 150,000 people, and over 41,000 affected residents have been displaced. In terms of property damage, a total of 238 infrastructure facilities, including hospitals, schools and bridges, have been damaged, along with nearly 3,000 houses.

It said that the tremor was felt across most of Mindanao and parts of the central Philippines, and more than 1,700 aftershocks have been recorded since the main shock. Search and rescue operations in affected areas are still ongoing.

The most affected areas in terms of casualties, displacement, and damage to houses and infrastructure are the provinces of Sarangani and South Cotabato, including General Santos City, with a population of some 700,000, the council said, adding that fatalities were caused by earthquake-triggered landslides, drowning, and injuries from falling or collapsing debris.

The Philippines' Department of Education said the quake had affected over 8,600 schools, disrupting classes for over 4 million learners and more than 150,000 school personnel. The country's Department of Energy said that around 864,000 households experienced power interruptions.

The Department of Public Works and Highways said the damage to property caused by the quake has reached 1 billion pesos (about 16.2 million U.S. dollars) in General Santos City, a port city with a population of over 700,000.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the tectonic earthquake occurred at 07:37 local time at a depth of 33 km, with the epicenter 32 km southwest of the coast of Maasim town in Sarangani province on Mindanao Island.

　フィリピンの民間防衛局によると、死因は地震による土砂崩れ、溺死、落下または崩壊したがれきによる負傷などであるという。

　震源地付近の沿岸サランガニ州では、山のふもとの住宅が土砂崩れで埋められ、14人が死亡した。

　フィリピンの教育当局は、地震で8600以上の学校が休校し、400万人以上の学生と15万人以上の教職員が影響を受けたという。またエネルギー省は、約86万4000世帯で停電が発生したとしている。

　フィリピン公共事業道路省によると、70万人以上の人口を抱える港湾都市ジェネラル・サントス市では、地震による物的被害が10億ペソ（約1620万米ドル）に達したという。

Bei einem Erdbeben der Stärke 7,8, das sich am Montag vor der Südküste Mindanaos auf den Philippinen ereignet hatte, kamen mindestens 45 Menschen ums Leben, 17 gelten als vermisst und 487 wurden verletzt, teilte der Nationale Rat für Katastrophenvorsorge und -management am Mittwoch mit.

Laut Angaben der Behörde hat das Erdbeben mehr als 33.000 Haushalte bzw. fast 150.000 Menschen betroffen, und über 41.000 Betroffene mussten evakuiert werden. Insgesamt wurden 238 Infrastruktureinrichtungen, darunter Krankenhäuser, Schulen und Brücken, sowie fast 3000 Häuser beschädigt.

Wie der Rat weiter mitteilte, war das Beben in weiten Teilen Mindanaos und in Teilen der zentralen Philippinen spürbar, und seit dem Hauptbeben wurden mehr als 1700 Nachbeben registriert. Die Such- und Rettungsmaßnahmen in den betroffenen Gebieten dauern noch an.

Der Rat erklärte, dass die Provinzen Sarangani und South Cotabato, einschließlich der Hafenstadt General Santos mit einer Bevölkerung von rund 700.000 Menschen, die am stärksten betroffenen Gebiete hinsichtlich Todesopfern, Vertreibungen sowie Schäden an Häusern und Infrastruktur seien. Die Todesfälle seien durch erdbebenausgelöste Erdrutsche, Ertrinken sowie Verletzungen durch herabfallende Trümmer oder einstürzende Gebäudeteile verursacht worden, fügte er hinzu.

Nach Angaben des philippinischen Bildungsministeriums sind über 8600 Schulen von dem Erdbeben betroffen, weshalb für über vier Millionen Schüler und mehr als 150.000 Lehrkräfte der Unterricht unterbrochen wurde. Das Energieministerium des Landes teilte mit, dass rund 864.000 Haushalte von Stromausfällen betroffen waren.

Das Ministerium für öffentliche Arbeit und Autobahnen teilte mit, dass der durch das Erdbeben verursachte Sachschaden in General Santos eine Milliarde Pesos (etwa 16,2 Millionen US-Dollar) erreicht hat.
