Russia reported on Friday that its forces have taken control of five settlements in Ukraine's Kharkov and Donetsk regions over the past week, while Ukraine on the same day reported attacks against Russian energy infrastructure.
Russian forces carried out seven retaliatory strikes over the past week targeting infrastructure facilities used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
"Between June 6 and June 12, ... the Russian forces delivered two massive strikes and five group strikes employing high-precision weapons and attack drones," the defense ministry said in a briefing.
The ministry added that the strikes successfully hit fuel and energy infrastructure, transport and port facilities utilized by the Ukrainian forces, military airfields, ammunition depots, sites for the assembly, storage, preparation and launch of long-range drones and unmanned boats, as well as temporary deployment hubs housing Ukrainian armed units and foreign mercenaries.
On the same day, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said Russia's air defense systems have shot down 16 Ukrainian drones approaching Moscow since midnight.
Ukrainian drones struck the Russian capital and other Russian cities on Friday, the country's national day.
On the same day, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the Ukrainian defense forces have launched attacks on energy facilities in Russia's Republic of Dagestan and Samara region, as well as Russian military and logistical facilities in Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Luhansk regions.
Several oil refining factories and petrochemical plants caught fire after the attack, the general staff added.
