Taicang Port in east China's Jiangsu Province exported 507,000 vehicles in the first five months of the year, up roughly 70 percent year on year and hitting the 500,000 mark three months earlier than last year, according to customs data.

Of the total, new energy vehicle exports reached 310,000 units, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the total and surging more than 90 percent year on year. Exports to Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) participating countries totaled about 210,000 vehicles, a 118-percent increase year on year.

Taicang Port now ranks first in vehicle exports among ports in Jiangsu and along the Yangtze River, serving as a key hub for Chinese automakers shipping vehicles overseas. The port has become a vital gateway for a growing number of vehicle manufacturers seeking to expand their global footprint.
