The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government held a welcome ceremony for the visiting Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy fleet at the PLA Hong Kong Garrison's naval base on Stonecutters Island on Thursday.

The fleet consists of the guided-missile destroyer Nanning and guided-missile frigate Hengyang, along with ship-borne helicopters and marines. It sailed into HKSAR waters Thursday morning for a five-day visit, featuring open-house events and cultural exchange activities.

The fleet sailed into Victoria Harbor in column formation at around 07:00 local time, escorted by vessels from the HKSAR government Fleet and the PLA Hong Kong Garrison.

At approximately 10:00 after mooring at the naval base, senior officers of the PLA Navy and the visiting fleet, alongside crew representatives, disembarked and received a warm welcome extended by officials from the offices of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, representatives of the PLA Hong Kong Garrison, local residents and young students.

The opening ceremony kicked off with the playing of the national anthem, after which HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee delivered a welcoming address. The officials and representatives then boarded the naval vessels for a tour.

"I feel very honored, happy, and excited to see such advanced military equipment of our country up close. It also made me deeply understand that to achieve true peace, we must first become strong ourselves. I wish our motherland prosperity, and hope that Hong Kong will continue to enjoy stability and achieve even better development," said Hu Wen-hsuan, a Hong Kong resident.

This marks the two warships' maiden port call in the HKSAR. Both vessels will open to Hong Kong and Macao residents and students from Friday through Sunday, enabling compatriots at the two places to gain first-hand insight into advances in China's new-era national defense and military modernization.

"We look forward to the open-house events when our compatriots in Hong Kong and Macao can personally touch the decks and hear us share real stories of evacuating Chinese citizens from war zones and conducting overseas escort missions. We want everyone to truly see the confidence and strength with which our motherland protects every Chinese citizen. I sincerely wish Hong Kong continued prosperity, stability and a brighter future," said Lei Xiao, a soldier of the guided-missile destroyer Nanning.
