Erenhot Port in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has registered record highs in both its freight train trips bound for Europe and the volume of cargo shipped via this logistics route, according to data released by local railway authorities.

The port handled its 2,500th China-Europe freight train trip of this year on Monday, according to the data, a milestone that has been reached 23 days earlier than last year.

As the sole transit port for the "middle corridor" of the China-Europe freight train network, the Erenhot Port has handled 2,500 China-Europe freight train trips this year, transporting 2.3172 million tonnes of cargo, up 13.71 percent and 27.03 percent year-on-year, respectively. Both the number of trips and the volume of cargo have reached record highs for the same period in history, fully demonstrating the effectiveness of the port as a key cross-border logistics corridor.

One of the contributors to this development is the railway authorities' efforts this year to cut customs clearance time.

Thanks to digitalized and intelligent customs systems, the shortest time for customs clearance at the Erenhot Port has been shortened to about 30 minutes.
