A Chinese mainland spokeswoman on Wednesday slammed the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in the Taiwan region for hollowing out local industries and harming people's interests.

Zhang Han, spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks when asked to comment on the investment expansion in the United States announced by the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world's leading contract chipmaker.

"The Democratic Progressive Party authorities' attempts to solicit U.S. support for Taiwan secession and kneel to the U.S. while selling out Taiwan are the root cause of the damage to Taiwan's economy and the gradual loss of its competitive edge.
