China has submitted to the United Nations a position paper on global cyberspace governance, which advocates respecting all countries' digital sovereignty, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

Lin said China presented its position paper at the inaugural meeting of the UN's Global Mechanism on developments in the field of information and communication technology (ICTs) in the context of international security and advancing responsible State behavior in the use of ICTs, which is running from Monday to Friday in New York City.

As the "latest step to implement the Global Governance Initiative and build a community with a shared future in cyberspace," China submitted the paper to share its "latest position and propositions on global cyber governance in the digital-intelligent age," according to the spokesman.

"The document advocates respecting digital sovereignty and promoting development for all.
