China always opposes forming closed and exclusive groupings, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.

Lin Jian, the spokesman, made the remarks in response to a media query that the United States is preparing to ramp up funding by hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars for programs designed to counter China's growing influence across the Americas, Africa, and Asia.

"State-to-state relations and normal cooperation should not target any third party. China opposes forming exclusive groupings," Lin said.

"China's cooperation with relevant countries and regions, especially with fellow developing countries, is not about wooing anyone or rivaling anyone, but for global peace, prosperity, international order and a community with a shared future for humanity," Lin said.
