The United States and Israel are preparing fresh strikes on Iran, possibly lasting through the weekend, U.S. media reported, as divisions over war strategy and waning public support deepen the conflict's uncertainty.

The reported military plan calls for strikes on energy facilities, including power plants and oil refineries, with Israel having been notified and coordinating with the U.S. However, no final order has been issued by U.S. President Donald Trump as of yet.

Trump convened a cabinet meeting on Friday to discuss the war with Iran and other issues.

One U.S. official revealed growing discord within the administration over how to handle the Iran conflict, with Trump "exasperated" with officials lacking consensus on war strategy.

According to a recent poll released by U.S. media, about two-thirds of Americans believe the conflict with Iran is not worthwhile, while only about one-third consider it worthwhile, which is the lowest approval rating since the war began.

Former U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta warned in a media interview on Thursday that the United States is mired in an "unwinnable" war in Iran.
