The United Nations (UN) warns of shortages of essential medical supplies in the Gaza Strip after last weekend's hospital attack, said Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for UN secretary-general.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that daily air strikes, shelling and shooting continued across Gaza over the weekend, reportedly killing dozens of people, including children and other civilians, Haq briefed reporters at a press conference.

Haq said that one strike hit the area of Al Aqsa hospital on Saturday, damaging an adjacent medical storage facility.

"The World Health Organization (WHO) tells us that this caused the destruction of essential medical supplies, including some that they had delivered. Due to the proximity of the attack, the hospital building also sustained minor damage. The Ministry of Health reported that more than 150 fatalities, including dozens of civilians, were documented in July — the highest reported monthly death toll since the beginning of the year," said Haq.

The UN warned that more supplies required to prevent and control infections are pending Israeli approval to bring into Gaza.

Haq stressed that under international humanitarian law, civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected and should not be targeted. In addition, healthcare facilities must never be attacked or militarized.

Haq also noted that the UN condemns all killings of civilians, as it has done.

Заместитель официального представителя генерального секретаря ООН Фархан Хак 3 августа предупредил об острой нехватке медицинских материалов в секторе Газа из-за нападений на местные медицинские учреждения.

Выступая на пресс-конференции, Фархан Хак сообщил, что в минувшие выходные по всей Газе продолжались удары, в результате чего погибли десятки человек, включая детей. Один из ударов пришелся в район больницы Аль-Акса, повредив расположенный рядом склад медицинских материалов.

Официальный представитель также подчеркнул, что в соответствии с международным гуманитарным правом гражданские лица и гражданская инфраструктура должны быть защищены, медицинские учреждения не должны подвергаться атакам или использоваться в военных целях.

ООН осуждает все инциденты, повлекшие гибель мирных жителей, добавил он.
