China recorded 3.463 billion domestic tourist trips in the first half of 2026, representing a 5.4 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to the data released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Friday.

Total spending by domestic tourists reached 3.21 trillion yuan (475.7 billion U.S. dollars), up 2.0 percent year on year.

Urban residents accounted for 2.66 trillion yuan (390 billion U.S. dollars) of this spending, marking a 2.2 percent year-on-year increase, while rural residents contributed 0.56 trillion yuan (83 billion U.S. dollars), up 0.6 percent year on year.
