Firefighters in east China's Zhejiang Province were working around the clock on Tuesday to evacuate people stranded in flood as continuous rainfall triggered by Typhoon Dolphin battered multiple cities of the province.
In the early morning of Tuesday, road traffic was disrupted due to torrential rains in the region of aquafarming ponds in Sanmen County, and four people were trapped in the flooded area.
Despite rapidly flowing water and low visibility in the dark, firefighters waded through water and successfully evacuated the stranded people to safety before the tide rose.
At the same time, firefighters rushed to the waterlogged Daotou Village in the county, transferring a new mother with her 15-day-old baby, and a 95-year-old elderly with the help of a rubber boat.
In Xitang Town of Jiashan County, the backflow of river water has caused severe waterlogging in a village, trapping many local residents, including two of advanced age.
Firefighters waded through to their homes, and transferred them before dawn.
In Ganyao Town, two elderly people, including one relying on ventilator for oxygen supply, were trapped in their house.
Firefighters carried the elderly on backs and ensured normal operation of the oxygen supply equipment. They waded through water slowly and finally transferred the elderly to a safe area.
In addition, continuous rainfall in the province also led to the occurrence of dangerous situations such as fallen trees, traffic disruption, road flooding, and damaged power and water supply equipment.
In response, local authorities carried out operations such as flood water drainage, road clearance, emergency repair of facilities, thus restoring local production and living order gradually.
