Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday extended congratulations to Andras Baka on assuming the office as Hungary's president.
In his congratulatory message, Xi said Hungary is one of the first countries to recognize the People's Republic of China and the two countries share a time-honored friendship.
Over the 77 years since China and Hungary established diplomatic relationship, the two sides have always adhered to mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, making remarkable achievements in cooperation across various fields, he said.
Xi said he attaches great importance to the development of China-Hungary relations and stands ready to work with President Baka to carry forward the traditional friendship, deepen political mutual trust and pragmatic cooperation in all sectors, promote the steady and sustained development of the China-Hungary all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership for the new era, and bring more benefits to the two peoples.
Baka, 73, was elected by the Hungarian parliament as the country's new president for a five-year term on Aug 11.
