China on Monday fired back at recent U.S. allegations targeting Chinese technology firms, accusing Washington of "technological bullying and unilateral coercion", and urging the U.S. to cease interfering in the sovereign states' choices of other nations as cooperation partners.

At a regular press briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lin Jian was requested to respond to a U.S. official's social media post that claimed Chinese companies pose risks of espionage, cyberattacks, and network disruptions. The official also urged U.S. partners in the Western Hemisphere to switch to what he called "trusted suppliers" to protect their citizens and national sovereignty.

"The relevant remarks are in fabrication of facts and in distortion of right and wrong. They are blatant technological bullying and unilateral coercion. China firmly opposes this," Lin said.

"We urge the United States to stop its political manipulation, stop interfering with the right of sovereign states to choose their own partners, and perform more practical deeds that are conducive to prosperity and stability of Latin America and the Caribbean," he said.
