There are still some registered foreign nationals in Gyirong County, mainly Nepali border residents engaged in legal business and work, cross-border drivers and transport workers serving tourism and trade, and Nepali nationals who are married to locals. All of these individuals are safe. We are now conducting a full accounting of these individuals, verifying their information, and registering them in our records. We are prioritizing the identification of Nepali nationals who wish to return home. A total of 261 foreign nationals from 23 countries have been identified as unaccounted for after a mudslide struck Gyirong Port on the China-Nepal border in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, local authorities said Sunday.

A fast-moving chain mudslide, triggered by a high-altitude glacier collapse on the Nepali side, struck Gyirong Port on Wednesday, causing heavy casualties and leaving many missing.

Speaking at a press conference, Zhao Peng, deputy commander of the emergency rescue headquarters for the Gyirong mudslide response and vice chairman of the People's Government of the Xizang Autonomous Region, detailed information on missing foreign nationals in the disaster.

"The disaster struck suddenly with great force, and the mudslide was extremely destructive. Infrastructure and personnel registration records in the disaster area have been extensively damaged, making it extremely difficult to trace and verify missing persons. Those unaccounted for include 104 people from Nepal, 49 from India, 33 from Latvia, 18 from the United States, 15 from Britain, six from Canada, six from Australia, four from South Africa, three from Malaysia, three from Germany, three from Russia, two from Ireland, two from Estonia, two from France, two from the Netherlands, two from New Zealand, and one each from Kazakhstan, Finland, Lithuania, Portugal, Ukraine, Spain and Hungary.
