Russian and Ukrainian forces continued to fight despite mediation efforts by the United States, both sides announced on Monday.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on Monday that its forces continued to strike port infrastructure and ships used by Ukraine for military purposes. From Sunday evening to Monday morning, Russian air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 306 Ukrainian drones in Belgorod Oblast, Bryansk Oblast, and over the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea, the ministry said.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released a combat report on Monday, stating that 237 battles had taken place on the front lines over the past day. The report said Ukrainian forces repelled Russian offensives in several locations, destroying 51 Russian artillery systems, seven multiple rocket launcher systems, and over 1,400 drones, among other equipment.

Over the past weekend, U.S. peace envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held talks with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Witkov said in Kyiv on Sunday that both Russia and Ukraine needed to make concessions to narrow their differences, adding that the necessary conditions were now in place.
