U.S. President Donald Trump signed a proclamation on Tuesday adjusting the scope of 50 percent additional ad valorem tariffs on certain imports from Canada, with the changes set to take effect on Sept 15.

The U.S. government previously determined that Canada's measures in the motor vehicle sector discriminated against U.S. commerce and burdened U.S. businesses. In response, the U.S. imposed 50 percent additional tariffs on select Canadian products.

After assessing the impact of the tariff measures, the U.S. government concluded that adjusting the product coverage of the 50 percent additional tariffs could similarly offset the burden or adverse effects on U.S. commerce while better serving the public interest, according to the proclamation.

Under the latest announcement, the U.S. will apply 50 percent additional tariffs to certain Canadian products while removing the tariffs from others. The specific products affected are listed in the annex to the proclamation.

The additions and removals will take effect at 00:01 Eastern Time (ET) on Sept 15, 2026.
