The United States should refrain from making unfounded accusations and smears against China regarding artificial intelligence (AI) model mining, said Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning at a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

Mao's remarks were in response to reports on U.S. accusing Chinese AI companies of "copying" its technology.

"China's AI development is the result of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-strengthening, and also benefits from China's consistent commitment to the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, as well as open cooperation. We hope the U. S. side will earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and refrain from making unfounded accusations and smears against China.
