More than 2,000 flights were canceled in Britain on Tuesday and Wednesday due to a technical issue, impacting at least 300,000 passengers, with Heathrow being the worst-hit airport.

The affected passengers "are unlikely to be entitled to compensation for delays or cancellations that were directly caused by the incident," said a statement issued by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Wednesday.

Cancellations were slowing Wednesday evening and none is scheduled for Thursday, according to the aviation analytics firm Cirium.

National Air Traffic Services (NATS) said on Tuesday afternoon that it identified a technical issue with its flight processing system, disrupting departures across the country and causing delays and cancellations.

The four-hour air traffic outage on Tuesday "left hundreds of thousands of passengers facing cancellations, diversions, and delays," said Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander on Wednesday.

"I do not believe this issue was unavoidable," she said, ordering an independent investigation by CAA into the system operated by NATS.

Martin Rolfe, chief executive officer of NATS, said a cyberattack was ruled out as the cause of the disruption.

Plus de 2 000 vols ont été annulés au Royaume-Uni mardi et mercredi en raison d’un problème technique, affectant au moins 300 000 passagers. L’aéroport de Heathrow a été le plus touché.

"Peu probable que les passagers concernés aient droit à une indemnisation pour les retards ou les annulations directement causés par l'incident ", a indiqué mercredi l’Autorité de l’aviation civile britannique (CAA) dans un communiqué.

La panne de quatre heures survenue mardi "a laissé des centaines de milliers de passagers confrontés à des annulations, des déroutements et des retards", a déclaré mercredi la ministre des Transports, Heidi Alexander.

"Je ne pense pas que cet incident était inévitable", a-t-elle affirmé, ordonnant une enquête indépendante de la CAA sur le système géré par NATS.

Martin Rolfe, directeur général de NATS, a précisé que la piste d’une cyberattaque avait été écartée.

Al menos a 300.000 pasajeros en el Reino Unido se vieron afectados por la cancelación de más de 2.000 vuelos el martes y el miércoles por un problema técnico. El aeropuerto londinense de Heathrow fue el más perjudicado.
