U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday denied reports that multiple U.S. warplanes were damaged in Iranian strikes on the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Trump said there was no truth to the relevant reports.
"None whatsoever. No damage. No, nothing," Trump said in an interview with NewsNation.
Multiple U.S. military aircraft were damaged in overnight Iranian strikes from Tuesday to Wednesday local time on the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, the CBS News reported on Wednesday.
Citing people with direct knowledge of the matter, the CBS News said that "roughly eight F-15s sustained light damage and were reportedly placed back into service, according to the people familiar with the damage."
One A-10 Thunderbolt, known as the Warthog, was struck and was missing a wing, and no U.S. deaths have been reported in Iran's strikes on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, the report said.
The strikes came after the U.S. said Tuesday it attacked five Iranian tankers in retaliation for Iran targeting a U.S. Navy warship.
"U.S. forces in Jordan launched more than 30 Patriot missiles defending against the Iranian strikes in Jordan," the CBS News said.
Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said Wednesday that its aerospace forces had targeted a U.S. air base in Jordan in retaliation for the "aggressive" attacks by the United States against Iranian oil tankers.
The IRGC said in a statement that it struck a hangar for the maintenance, repair and deployment of the U.S. Army's F-35, F-16 and F-15 fighter jets and a shelter for the U.S. fighter aircraft at the Al-Azraq Air Base, "inflicting heavy damage on the enemy."
