"During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China's installed new-type energy storage capacity grew by more than 40 times, achieving a historic leap from the initial stage of commercialization to large-scale development. During the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), the new-type energy storage is expected to maintain a high growth, with an estimated additional installed capacity of about 160 million kilowatts."

China's installed capacity of new-type energy storage had grown from 3 million kilowatts at the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) to 153 million kilowatts by the end of June this year, showing a rapid and leapfrog growth.
By the end of June, China's built and operational new-type energy storage capacity had reached 153 million GW/396 million GWh, up 61 percent year on year.
The utilization of new-type energy storage has also improved steadily, with equivalent utilization hours reaching 611, 911 and 1,195 in 2023, 2024 and 2025, respectively, bringing the system's regulatory role into full play .

As planned, by 2030, China's new-type energy storage capacity will reach 300 million kilowatts, of which grid-side independent new-type energy storage capable of peak-shaving and supply assurance will reach 140 million kilowatts.
