Experts at a national conference on advanced manufacturing stressed that China should develop its advanced manufacturing sector, a critical strategic priority, by focusing on intelligent, green, and integrated development.
The conference was held in Beijing on Wednesday and Thursday.
It is important to adhere to intelligent, green, and integrated development to continuously strengthen and expand advanced manufacturing, experts said. They noted that building a modern industrial system with advanced manufacturing as its backbone is a key measure for balancing development and security while enhancing global industrial competitiveness.
"Goods trade still accounts for three-quarters of global trade. High-tech products related to advanced manufacturing best reflect a nation's industrial competitiveness, as they have the highest added value and occupy the high-end segments of global value chains," said Tian Jietang, Director of the Industrial Economy Research Department at the State Council Development Research Center.
The conference emphasized the need to adapt to the trends of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, with next-generation intelligent manufacturing as the main direction. It called for greater emphasis on digital and intelligent empowerment in development strategies, high-end self-reliance in technology roadmaps, green and low-carbon practices in production methods, and cross-sector integration in scenario and business formats. All aim at promoting the intelligent, green, and integrated development of manufacturing.
"[Advanced manufacturing] should play a leading and driving role for agriculture and the service industry, promoting the transformation of primary, secondary, and tertiary industries toward intelligent, green, and integrated development, and accelerating changes in quality, efficiency and momentum," said Zhang Li, President of the China Center for Information Industry Development.
Experts noted that in recent years, China has stepped up its efforts to build a manufacturing powerhouse, achieving simultaneous improvements in both the scale and quality of its manufacturing sector. Its manufacturing value added has ranked first globally for 16 consecutive years.
Innovation momentum continues to surge, with accelerated technological iteration in frontier fields such as artificial intelligence, quantum technology, high-end equipment, and biomanufacturing.
