Explosions were heard in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's capital, twice on Saturday.

Residents received air-raid warnings before dawn — the first time Riyadh has sounded such alerts since conflicts between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia escalated.

Smoke was seen rising near King Khalid International Airport in the northeastern part of the capital following the second blast around midday, with some flights being delayed.

The Yemeni Houthi group claimed responsibility, saying it carried out two operations using ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones.

According to a statement issued by the group on Saturday, the first targeted what it called "sensitive sites" in Riyadh, while the second hit facilities belonging to Saudi Aramco in the coastal city of Yanbu. The group said both strikes succeeded and caused large fires, describing the operations as retaliation for Saudi airstrikes and Riyadh's accusations that Yemen attacked Mecca.

In a later statement, the Saudi-led coalition said that its air defenses intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile targeting Riyadh and thwarted attacks on Baish, Taif, Farasan and Yanbu. Coalition spokesperson Turki Al-Maliki said the attacks targeted "civilians and civilian objects" and vowed "appropriate measures" to deter further attacks.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Saturday that Türkiye stands ready to provide help to Saudi Arabia under the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, which Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan signed on August 7.

Under the agreement, an armed attack on any one of the three countries is considered an attack on all. Fidan said signatories are monitoring the situation and that Saudi military needs may center on technical matters, which Türkiye is equipped to meet.

He added that Türkiye does not accept Saudi Arabia being drawn into the conflict between the United States and Iran.

Meanwhile, Italian media reported that Italy is drafting plans to strengthen escort operations in the Bab el-Mandab Strait, and is prepared to deploy additional warships to keep commercial shipping lanes open.

Defense Minister Guido Crosetto has reportedly written to the European Union (EU) urging swift and effective action, warning that Italy will boost its own deployment if other EU members fail to contribute ships — and that those members should share the costs.

Bab el-Mandab Strait, which links the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden, has grown more critical for Europe-Asia trade since shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has been severely disrupted since U.S. and Israeli military strikes on Iran in February.

Tensions have risen further in recent weeks: the Houthis intensified their offensive against Yemen's government forces, announced a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia, captured the Red Sea port city of Mocha on Sept 10, and seized Perim Island — a strategically located island near Bab al-Mandab Strait — the following day.

سُمع دوي انفجارات في الرياض، العاصمة السعودية، يوم السبت/19 سبتمبر الجاري، فيما تصاعد دخان كثيف قرب مطار الملك خالد الدولي ظهرا، بعد سماع دوي انفجارات في وقت سابق من صباح ذلك اليوم.

وتلقى السكان تحذيرات من غارات جوية قبل الفجر، وهي المرة الأولى التي تُطلق فيها الرياض مثل هذه الإنذارات منذ تصاعد الصراع بين جماعة الحوثي والسعودية.

وأعلنت جماعة الحوثي مسؤوليتها عن الهجومين، قائلةً إنها نفذت عمليتين باستخدام صواريخ باليستية وصواريخ كروز وطائرات مسيرة.

وجاء بيان جماعة الحوثي بعد سماع دوي انفجارين في الرياض يوم السبت. وشوهد دخان يتصاعد قرب مطار الملك خالد الدولي شمال شرق العاصمة عقب الحادث الثاني، ما أدى إلى تأخير بعض الرحلات الجوية.

واستهدفت الضربة الأولى ما وصفته بـ"مواقع حساسة" في الرياض، بينما استهدفت الثانية منشآت تابعة لشركة أرامكو السعودية في مدينة ينبع الساحلية. وأعلنت الجماعة نجاح الضربتين وتسببهما في حرائق واسعة النطاق، واصفة العمليات بأنها ردٌّ على الغارات الجوية السعودية واتهامات الرياض لليمن بالهجوم على مدينة مكة المكرمة.

في بيان لاحق، أعلن التحالف الذي تقوده السعودية أن الدفاعات الجوية اعترضت ودمرت صاروخا باليستيا تابعا للحوثيين كان يستهدف الرياض، وأحبطت هجمات على بيش والطائف وفرسان وينبع. وصرح المتحدث باسم التحالف، تركي المالكي، بأن الهجمات استهدفت "مدنيين ومرافق مدنية"، وتعهد باتخاذ "التدابير المناسبة" لردع أي هجمات أخرى.

هذا وقد أعلن وزير الخارجية التركي، هاكان فيدان، يوم السبت، أن تركيا على أهبة الاستعداد لتقديم المساعدة للسعودية بموجب اتفاقية مكة للدفاع المشترك، التي وقعتها السعودية وتركيا وباكستان في السابع من أغسطس.

وبموجب الاتفاقية، يُعتبر أي هجوم مسلح على أي من الدول الثلاث هجوما عليها جميعا. وأوضح فيدان أن الدول الموقعة تراقب الوضع عن كثب، وأن الاحتياجات العسكرية السعودية قد تتمحور حول مسائل فنية، وهو ما تمتلك تركيا القدرة على تلبيتها.

وأضاف أن تركيا لا تقبل بانجرار السعودية إلى الصراع بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران.

وفي غضون ذلك، أفادت وسائل إعلام إيطالية بأن إيطاليا تضع الخطط لتعزيز عمليات الحراسة في مضيق باب المندب، وأنها على استعداد لنشر سفن حربية إضافية للحفاظ على ممرات الشحن التجاري مفتوحة.

وورد أن وزير الدفاع غيدو كروسيتو قد وجّه رسالة إلى الاتحاد الأوروبي يحثّه فيها على اتخاذ إجراءات سريعة وفعّالة، محذرًا من أن إيطاليا ستعزز انتشارها البحري إذا لم تُساهم الدول الأعضاء الأخرى في الاتحاد الأوروبي بسفنها، وأن على تلك الدول تقاسم التكاليف.

وازدادت أهمية مضيق باب المندب بالنسبة للتجارة بين أوروبا وآسيا منذ أن تعطلت حركة الملاحة عبر مضيق هرمز بشدة جراء الضربات العسكرية الأمريكية والإسرائيلية على إيران في فبراير.

وقد تصاعدت التوترات بشكل أكبر في الأسابيع الأخيرة، إذ كثّفت جماعة الحوثي هجومهم على القوات الحكومية اليمنية، وأعلنت فرض حصار بحري على السعودية، وسيطرت على مدينة المخا الساحلية على البحر الأحمر في 10 سبتمبر، واستولت على جزيرة بريم - وهي جزيرة ذات موقع استراتيجي بالقرب من مضيق باب المندب - في اليوم التالي.

El grupo hutí de Yemen atacó el sábado la capital saudí, Riad. En dos ocasiones, se escucharon explosiones en la ciudad, al tiempo que los residentes recibieron alertas antiaéreas antes del amanecer. Se trata de la primera vez que Riad activa este tipo de advertencias desde la escalada del conflicto entre los hutíes y Arabia Saudí.

Cerca del Aeropuerto Internacional Rey Khalid, en el noreste de la capital, se observaba una columna de humo elevándose tras la segunda explosión alrededor del mediodía, lo que afectó al tránsito aéreo normal y provocó el restraso de algunos vuelos.

El grupo hutí de Yemen reivindicó la autoría de los ataques, afirmando haber llevado a cabo dos operaciones con misiles balísticos, misiles de crucero y drones.

Según un comunicado del grupo, el primero tuvo como objetivo lo que denominó "sitios sensibles" en Riad, mientras que el segundo alcanzó instalaciones de Saudi Aramco en la ciudad costera de Yanbu. El grupo confirmó el éxito de ambos ataques, los cuales provocaron grandes incendios, y calificó estas operaciones como represalia por los bombardeos saudíes y por las acusaciones de Riad de que Yemen había atacado La Meca.

Por otro lado, la coalición liderada por Arabia Saudí informó en un comunicado que sus defensas aéreas interceptaron y destruyeron un misil balístico hutí dirigido contra Riad, y frustraron ataques en Baish, Taif, Farasan y Yanbu. El portavoz de la coalición, Turki Al-Maliki, señaló que los ataques apuntaron a "civiles y objetos civiles" y prometió "medidas apropiadas" para disuadir futuros ataques.

El ministro de Relaciones Exteriores turco, Hakan Fidan, declaró el sábado que Turquía está dispuesta a prestar ayuda a Arabia Saudí en virtud del Acuerdo de Defensa Conjunta de La Meca, firmado por Arabia Saudí, Turquía y Pakistán el pasado 7 de agosto.

Según el acuerdo, un ataque armado contra cualquiera de los tres países se considera un ataque contra todos. Fidan indicó que los firmantes están monitoreando la situación y que las necesidades militares de Arabia Saudí podrían centrarse en cuestiones técnicas, que Turquía está capacitada para atender.

El canciller turco añadió que su país no acepta que Arabia Saudí se vea arrastrada al conflicto entre Estados Unidos e Irán.

Mientras tanto, medios italianos informaron de que Italia está elaborando planes para reforzar las operaciones de escolta en el estrecho de Bab el-Mandeb, y está preparada para desplegar buques de guerra adicionales para mantener abiertas las rutas marítimas comerciales.

Según los informes, el ministro de Defensa, Guido Crosetto, ha escrito a la Unión Europea (UE) instando a una acción rápida y efectiva, y advirtiendo de que Italia aumentará su propio despliegue si otros miembros de la UE no contribuyen con buques, y que esos miembros deberían compartir los costos.

El estrecho de Bab el-Mandeb, que conecta el mar Rojo con el golfo de Adén, ha cobrado mayor importancia para el comercio entre Europa y Asia desde que el tránsito por el estrecho de Ormuz se vio gravemente interrumpido tras los ataques militares de Estados Unidos e Israel contra Irán en febrero.

Las tensiones han aumentado aún más en las últimas semanas. Los hutíes intensificaron su ofensiva contra las fuerzas gubernamentales yemeníes, anunciaron un bloqueo marítimo contra Arabia Saudí, capturaron la ciudad portuaria de Mocha, en el mar Rojo, el 10 de septiembre, y al día siguiente se apoderaron de la isla de Perim, de gran valor estratégico cerca del estrecho de Bab el-Mandeb.
