Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Sunday on social media Max that more than 1,600 Ukrainian drones had been shot down across the Moscow region since Saturday, including 450 approaching Moscow.

He said several Ukrainian drones reached the Moscow Oil Refinery, and one struck a residential building, but there were no fatalities.

Sobyanin said the unprecedented attack was aimed at disrupting the ongoing State Duma elections but it had failed to do so.

Residential buildings were also damaged in other municipalities of the Moscow Oblast.

Meanwhile, the Russian defense ministry reported early on Sunday that, over the past 24 night, the Russian forces intercepted and shot down 1,110 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over 20 regions and in the Black Sea.

Also on Sunday, the Ukrainian Air Force said that since 18:00 local time on Saturday, Russian forces had launched 138 drones in attacks. According to preliminary statistics, as of 08:00 local time on Sunday, the Ukrainian air defense forces had shot down or neutralized 101 drones.

The Ukrainian side confirmed that 17 locations were struck by Russian aerial weapons.

On the same day, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in the early hours of the day, Ukrainian forces carried out strikes on the Moscow Oil Refinery.

The Ukrainian side said that a large-scale fire broke out in the refinery and facilities such as the AVT-6 primary refining unit and the integrated crude oil processing unit were hit.

The Ukrainian military said that Moscow Oil Refinery is one of Russia's largest refining enterprises, with an annual crude oil processing capacity of approximately 12 million tonnes, producing petroleum products such as automotive gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, and heavy fuel oil.

The Ukrainian side claimed that the refinery plays a role in meeting the needs of the Russian armed forces.
