Safeguarding peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait has served as the biggest common denominator between China and the United States, a China spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Speaking at a press briefing in Beijing, Zhang Han, a spokeswoman with the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, noted that the Taiwan question is of great significance within China-U.S. relations, referring to what Chinese President Xi Jinping has underscored in regard to the Taiwan question during his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C. on September 24.
