People across China on Thursday celebrated the National Day with various activities, marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

In Taiyuan City, north China's Shanxi Province, tens of thousands of people gathered in a local square to attend a National Day flag-raising ceremony.

Marching in firm, synchronized steps, the national flag guard escorted the flag into the square. Crowds waved small red flags to offer their best wishes to the motherland.

"I got up at around 4 o'clock this morning and woke my child up to come here and experience the moment. A sense of happiness and goodwill welled up in all of us, and we hope our motherland will become even more prosperous and thriving," said local resident Li Rong.

In Minqin County, northwest China's Gansu Province, crowds sang a patriotic song amid rolling sand dunes and autumn scenery.

For more than 70 years, local authorities have fought desertification and built over 300 kilometers of shelterbelts, making the desert, once a barrier to development, a unique eco-tourism attraction for the county.

"So many people gathered here singing in the desert. The atmosphere is incredibly warm. Through our songs, we wish our motherland greater strength and hope our hometown becomes better and better," said participant Yan Chaojun.

In Hechuan District, southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, a giant Chinese national flag was unfurled as residents and visitors waved flags and sang patriotic songs.

In Yongchun County, east China's Fujian Province, a group of hiking enthusiasts climbed a local mountain to celebrate the National Day.

A drone lifted a massive Chinese national flag high above the green hills, with loud renditions of a patriotic song echoing with mountain winds, forming a grand celebration scene.

"We stay rooted while keeping our country in our hearts. We bless our motherland's prosperity in our own way and wish our great motherland all the best," said tourist Yan Yan.

In east China's Shandong Province, visitors gathered atop Mount Tai, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of China's most sacred mountains, early Thursday morning for a special flag raising ceremony.

As the first sunlight broke through clouds, the national flag rose slowly to the national anthem. Against the mountainous backdrop, the crowd offered sincere blessings to the country.
