Saudi Arabia carried out 94 airstrikes and missile attacks over the past 24 hours on Houthi-held areas across Yemen, said Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea on Friday.

The Saudi Air Force targeted civilian sites in the governorates of Sanaa, Saada, Taiz, Hajjah, Amran and Ibb, resulting in civilian casualties and injuries, said Sarea in a statement.

These attacks were carried out by F-15 and Typhoon fighter jets, which took off from air bases in Khamis Mushait and Taif, and the missile strikes were launched from Najran and Jazan, he said.

This brings the total number of Saudi airstrikes and missile attacks to 1,350 since the escalation began, said the spokesman.

More than 70 people have been killed in fierce fighting between Yemen's Houthi group and government forces in southwestern Taiz province over the past 24 hours, military and medical sources said Friday.

A Yemeni government military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said more than 20 government soldiers and nearly 10 allied local fighters had been killed and dozens of others wounded in fighting in Taiz over the past 24 hours.

Majid al-Nuzaili, spokesperson for the government forces, said on X that government forces had carried out 474 strikes and targeting operations against the Houthis using fighter jets, drones, and other weapons. He claimed the strikes had killed or wounded 1,540 Houthi fighters, most of them in Taiz, and destroyed or disabled 216 pieces of military equipment.

The Saudi-led coalition's spokesperson Turki Al-Maliki said on X that three ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi group toward Khamis Mushait were intercepted and destroyed.

The latest fighting is part of a broader escalation around the Bab al-Mandab Strait, the strategic waterway linking the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and a major route for international shipping.
