Chinese President Xi Jinping and Botswana's President Duma Gideon Boko announced the elevation of bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership as they met in Beijing on Tuesday.

Commending the two countries' traditional friendship, Xi said China and Botswana should continue to support each other's development and contribute to global development and progress.

"I have said that the friendship between China and Botswana should shine as brilliantly and endure as long as a diamond. This is a vivid portrayal of the course of our bilateral relations. Boko, who is on a state visit to China from Oct 12 to 17 at Xi's invitation, expressed his gratitude for the visit which began with a trip to east China's Fujian Province, where Xi served for many years as a senior provincial official.
