Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to U.S. President Donald Trump over the phone last week to discuss the possibility of a renewed military campaign against Iran before the upcoming Israeli legislative elections in October and the U.S. midterm elections in November, according to a media report on Tuesday.

Netanyahu said during the call that he was concerned about Israeli intelligence indicating Iran was taking troubling steps to rebuild its nuclear capacity, according to a report by news website Axios, citing an Israeli official.

One U.S. official told Axios that Trump told Netanyahu to "go ahead and get ready," but noted there was no firm commitment to restarting military operations.

Sources said both the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) are on alert, and are finalizing preparations in case Trump decides to order strikes.

The report, citing an Israeli official, said Netanyahu said during a meeting with security agency heads in Israel that the proposal was initially raised by Trump, rather than initiated by Israel.

The Israeli Prime Minister's Office confirmed that Netanyahu had maintained regular contact with Trump but declined to comment on the content of their conversation.

The White House has also declined to comment.

Le Premier ministre israélien Benjamin Netanyahou s'est entretenu la semaine dernière par téléphone avec le président américain Donald Trump pour discuter de la possibilité d'une nouvelle campagne militaire contre l'Iran avant les prochaines élections législatives israéliennes d'octobre et les élections de mi-mandat américaines de novembre, selon un rapport de presse publié mardi.

Netanyahou a déclaré à cette occasion qu'il était préoccupé par des renseignements israéliens indiquant que l'Iran cherchait à reconstruire sa capacité nucléaire, a rapporté le site d'information américain Axios en citant un responsable israélien.

Un responsable américain a déclaré à Axios que Trump avait dit à Netanyahou de "continuer et de se préparer", tout en notant qu'il n'y avait pas d'engagement ferme à reprendre les opérations militaires. Selon des sources, tant les Forces de défense israéliennes (FDI) que le Commandement central des États-Unis (CENTCOM) sont en état d'alerte et finalisent leurs préparatifs au cas où Trump ordonnent des frappes.

D'après un responsable israélien, Netanyahou a déclaré lors d'une réunion avec les chefs des agences de sécurité d'Israël que la proposition avait été initialement avancée par Trump.

Le bureau du Premier ministre israélien a confirmé que Netanyahou maintenait des contacts réguliers avec Trump.

أجرى رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو اتصالاً هاتفياً بالرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب الأسبوع الماضي لمناقشة احتمالية شن حملة عسكرية جديدة ضد إيران قبل الانتخابات التشريعية الإسرائيلية المرتقبة في أكتوبر وانتخابات التجديد النصفي الأمريكية في نوفمبر، وذلك وفقاً لما ورد في تقرير إعلامي يوم الثلاثاء.

قال نتنياهو خلال المكالمة إنه يشعر بالقلق إزاء معلومات استخباراتية إسرائيلية تشير إلى أن إيران تتخذ خطوات مقلقة لإعادة بناء قدراتها النووية، وذلك وفقاً لتقرير نشره موقع "أكسيوس" الإخباري نقلاً عن مسؤول إسرائيلي.

صرح مسؤول أمريكي لموقع أكسيوس بأن ترامب طلب من نتنياهو "المضي قدماً والاستعداد"، لكنه أشار إلى عدم وجود التزام قاطع باستئناف العمليات العسكرية.

ذكرت مصادر أن الجيش الإسرائيلي والقيادة المركزية الأمريكية (سنتكوم) في حالة تأهب، ويعكفان على وضع اللمسات الأخيرة على الاستعدادات تحسباً لاحتمال أن يقرر ترامب إصدار أوامر بشن ضربات.

وذكر التقرير، نقلاً عن مسؤول إسرائيلي، أن نتنياهو قال -خلال اجتماع مع رؤساء الأجهزة الأمنية في إسرائيل- إن المقترح طُرح في البداية من قِبَل ترامب، ولم يكن بمبادرة من إسرائيل.

وأكد مكتب رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي أن نتنياهو حافظ على تواصل منتظم مع ترامب، لكنه رفض التعليق على مضمون محادثتهما.

كما رفض البيت الأبيض التعليق.
