China's 3D printing equipment has emerged as a magnet for international buyers at the ongoing 140th China Import and Export Fair, or Canton Fair.

The fair opened Thursday in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, with record shares of new and green products among its exhibits, as 32,000 companies gathered for the three-phase trade show.

On its opening day, the smart manufacturing hall was bustling with visitors. At the booth of a 3D printing company making its debut at the event, prospective buyers packed the aisle, watching live printing demonstrations and comparing the performance of different machines.

International buyers praised the precision and material quality of the machines on show.

"I see a lot of kind of machines here in China, very good quality printers. Some of their items, like the wings of the bird and everything, that's really amazing because I haven't expected that kind of precision, and that kind of materials. It feels good, the tactile sense is very good," said a buyer from Uzbekistan.

The exhibitor had brought a full lineup to the fair, covering both entry-level and advanced models. Strong performance in printing speed, operational stability and fault tolerance helped draw steady interest from buyers.

Beyond single machines, companies are also building broader product ecosystems around 3D printing. At another booth, an exhibitor showcased a 3D scanner developed in response to user demand, allowing users to scan a physical object, convert it into a digital model, make personalized adjustments and then print it -- linking real-world items directly to finished 3D products.

"We are participating in this exhibition for the second time, and from the overall effect on site, it is very good," said Ye Xingxing, a representative of the exhibitor.

The fair covers a total area of 1.55 million square meters and runs through Nov. 4 this year.

Held twice a year, the Canton Fair is China's largest and longest-running international trade event, widely regarded as a barometer of the country's foreign trade.
