The 2026 APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting, set for Oct. 20-21 in Hong Kong, is expected to boost Asia-Pacific capital market connectivity, with the city serving as a key bridge between the Chinese mainland and international markets, local financial figures and officials say.
As one of the most important finance ministers' meetings in the Asia-Pacific region, the APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting serves as a core platform for member economies to exchange views on macroeconomic policy. The meeting will lay a solid financial foundation for the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Shenzhen this November and help build an Asia-Pacific community.
There are four key topics to be discussed at the meeting: fiscal policies that safeguard people's livelihoods, digital infrastructure financing, implementation of inclusive finance, and exchanges among young finance professionals in the Asia-Pacific region.
China also expects all participants to fully exchange views and deliver outcomes, including a finance ministers' statement, relevant policy reports and a compilation of inclusive finance case studies, to continue adding impetus to Asia-Pacific economic growth.
"We believe the meeting will further promote capital market connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region and bring more cross-border investment and cooperation opportunities to the asset management industry. Hong Kong, with its internationalized, market-oriented and law-based business environment, brings together international capital and professional talent and offers a sound institutional system, making it a 'super connector' and 'super value-adder' between the Chinese mainland and international markets," said Lin Ning, managing director of China International Capital Corporation Hong Kong Asset Management Limited.
"Today, as the host, Hong Kong is no longer merely a speaker in the room, but a platform-builder for regional financial cooperation and a co-shaper of the agenda," said Tsoi Wing-sing, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
The meeting agenda is equally varied, featuring closed-door consultations among finance ministers and a luncheon bringing them together with business representatives. After the formal sessions, organizers will arrange site visits, so participants can experience firsthand the appeal of Hong Kong as an international financial center.
