China will work out more policies to promote the internationalization of the country’s fiat currency renminbi, said Pan Gongsheng, governor of the People's Bank of China, the country's central bank, at the opening ceremony of the Annual Conference of Financial Street Forum 2026 in Beijing on Monday.
He said that demand for the renminbi in international markets had grown greatly and the renminbi's internationalization continued to advance.
Pan said the renminbi has currently become China's leading settlement currency for foreign economic transactions, the world's second-largest currency for trade financing and the third-largest payment currency.
The central bank will further roll out more policies to create a more favorable environment for domestic and overseas entities to hold and use the renminbi, he said.
"Moving forward, we will continue to improve the renminbi clearing bank network to extend renminbi financial services to more business entities, promote renminbi-denominated bonds as globally recognized eligible collateral to facilitate global investors' allocation of renminbi bonds and provide stable and multi-tiered renminbi liquidity to the offshore market," said Pan.
The annual financial conference is taking place from Monday to Thursday in the Chinese captial.
With a theme of "Building an Open Collaborative and Inclusive Ecosystem for Global Financial Development," this year's conference is attracting prominent guests from over 40 countries and regions who will participate in various activities, including the main forum, parallel forums, thematic conferences and side events.
