A symposium marking the 81st anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to China is being held in Fuzhou City, east China's Fujian Province on Sunday, drawing experts and scholars from both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

During the event, participants emphasized that the historical and legal fact of Taiwan's return to China cannot -- and will not -- be altered, stating that Taiwan's future must and can only be jointly decided by all Chinese people.

They called on compatriots on both sides of the Strait to work together to pass on and carry forward the great national spirit and the spirit of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, stay committed to the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, and resolutely oppose separatist activities aimed at Taiwan secession and external interference, ensuring that the future of cross-Strait relations remains firmly in the hands of the Chinese people themselves.

October 25, 2026 marks the 81st anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to China and the first anniversary of the date being designated by China's national legislature as the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration.
