"Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee, with Xi Jinping at its core, has adhered to a zero-tolerance approach toward corruption, punished every corrupt official and rooted out graft relentlessly. It has led the entire Party to strengthen deterrence so that officials dare not be corrupt, tighten institutional rules so that they cannot be corrupt, and enhance awareness so that they do not want to be corrupt. This has resolutely removed the viruses eroding the Party's health, and driven the anti-corruption fight to achieve an overwhelming victory and comprehensively consolidated it. The 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has outlined four areas of focus for steadfastly following a distinctive Chinese path to combating corruption in a resolution adopted at its fifth plenary session, a senior anti-graft official said Friday.
The plenum, which concluded on Thursday in Beijing, adopted the Resolution of the CPC Central Committee on Certain Major Issues concerning Persevering with Full and Rigorous Party Self-Governance.
The four areas include maintaining a tough stance against corruption, strengthening checks on and oversight over the exercise of power, fortifying the cultural-ethical foundations for championing integrity and disdaining corruption, and enhancing coordinated efforts to prevent corruption by rooting out audacity, opportunity, and desire.
Zhang Fuhai, deputy secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC and deputy head of the National Commission of Supervision, elaborated on the guiding principles from the plenary session at a press conference.
Coordinating efforts to ensure officials dare not, cannot, and do not want to be corrupt is an important strategy for exercising full and rigorous Party self-governance and a basic guideline for the fight against corruption, said Zhang.

While hailing the anti-corruption victory, Zhang warned that the underlying conditions and soil that breed graft remain complex.
