Iranians have given mixed reactions toward a fragile ceasefire started on Wednesday following weeks of U.S.-Israel war on Iran, with some vowing to avenge for the deceased, others feeling relief as deadly attacks have been put on pause.

The ceasefire was announced between Iran, the United States, and Israel early Wednesday following 40 days of strikes.

Foad Izadi, a political expert and Associate Professor at the University of Tehran, said he feels "somewhere between" optimistic and pessimistic about the ceasefire and the planned talks between his country and the United States and Israel.

"We are dealing with Trump and Netanyahu, so you should not be optimistic at all. Being pessimistic is also not good, because Iran is interested in good faith negotiations, Iran is interested in reaching an agreement. So I am somewhere in between. I am not optimistic, and I don't want to be pessimistic," Izadi said.

In Tehran, some are demanding revenge for those killed, while others said they feel a sense of relief after weeks of fear and uncertainty.

"There is nothing wrong with negotiations, but I hope it doesn't end to our detriment. So many young people and also our leader, have been killed. Their blood must be avenged," said Noorolah, a Tehran resident.

"I am happy that the United States has been defeated, but regarding the ceasefire, I don't trust them," said Jamal, another resident in Tehran.

"I was under a lot of mental pressure and it was hard for me. I am happy that the ceasefire has been reached. I am very happy," said a resident named Parisa.

Iran's state-run Press TV reported on Wednesday that the Strait of Hormuz has been fully closed, forcing oil tankers to turn back.

Iran's semi-official Fars news agency said earlier in the day that the oil tankers' movements across the Strait of Hormuz had stopped concurrent with Israel's fresh deadly attacks on Lebanon.

According to Fars, after the ceasefire was achieved, Tehran allowed two oil tankers to safely cross the Strait of Hormuz.
