Rescue efforts are ongoing in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, following Israeli airstrikes last Wednesday, one of the deadliest days the country has ever seen.
Israeli warplanes launched a series of airstrikes across Lebanon last Wednesday, targeting multiple regions, including several densely populated neighborhoods in Beirut.
The death toll from strikes on the day has risen to 357, with 1,223 people injured, Lebanon's Health Ministry said on Friday. In a statement, the Emergency Operations Center at the Ministry of Public Health said the figures remain preliminary, as rescue teams continue clearing rubble and recovering human remains.
The Corniche al-Mazraa neighborhood, a mixed commercial and residential area in Beirut, was hard hit, where a residential building of more than ten stories was reduced to rubble and surrounding buildings also suffered varying degrees of damage.
Rescue crews are still at the site, searching through the rubble for survivors.
"When the attack happened, I was in the Bachoura neighborhood. My motorcycle was blown away. But thankfully, we managed to get to safety," said Mohammed, a local resident.
The Tallet El Khayat area was also hit, leaving buildings and vehicles destroyed and debris strewn across the ground.
"I was on a bus passing by at that moment. I asked the driver to stop. What I saw next was beyond description -- flames, thick smoke, crowds of people. Women were searching for their children. It was indescribable," said Fatima Al-Masri, another resident.
