Domestic demand contributed 84.7 percent of China's GDP growth in the first quarter of 2026, Mao Shengyong, deputy head of the National Bureau of Statistics, said on Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference in Beijing, Mao also noted that the strong performance in the first three months laid a solid foundation for stable economic operation and for achieving the country's annual growth targets.
"Despite an even more complex external environment and a high comparison base from the previous year, the GDP grew 5 percent year on year in the first quarter. The economic growth so far this year has increasingly been supported by new quality productive forces, innovation-driven development, and accelerated growth of new drivers," Mao said.
The official added that stronger domestic demand has also created favorable conditions for sustained economic growth.

Based on the first-quarter data, the contribution rate of domestic demand was higher, reaching 84.7 percent, an increase of nearly 30 percentage points year on year.
