China is willing to work with the United States to strengthen dialogue, manage differences, and expand pragmatic cooperation, China's top legislator Zhao Leji said on Thursday.
Zhao, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made the remarks during a meeting with a visiting delegation of U.S. senators led by Steve Daines in Beijing.
Zhao said that a stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations is in the common interest of the people of both countries and meets the general expectations of the international community. Since last year, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-U.S. relations have achieved overall stability. China is willing to work with the U.S. to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen dialogue and communication, properly manage differences, and expand pragmatic cooperation.
The Taiwan question is the core of China's core interests and the most important issue in China-U.S. relations. We hope that the U.S. will uphold the one-China principle and treat the Taiwan question with caution, Zhao said.
Zhao said that the National People's Congress of China is willing to strengthen exchanges with the U.S. Congress and enable more mutual visits. This visit by the senators will help promote contact and exchanges between China and the United States, as well as dialogue between the two countries' legislative bodies, he said.
Zhao expressed the hope that the U.S. side would view China and its development objectively and rationally, and welcomed more U.S. senators to visit China.
