Britain is sending destroyer HMS Dragon from the Eastern Mediterranean to the Middle East amid preparations for a possible multinational mission to safeguard shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, British media said on Saturday.

The move would allow the destroyer to contribute immediately, if needed, to a future operation aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation in the waterway, Sky News quoted Britain's Ministry of Defence as saying.

Any plan would be strictly defensive and aimed at restoring confidence for commercial shipping, the ministry added.

In March, the ship was deployed to the Eastern Mediterranean to begin "operational integration" into Cyprus' defenses, according to the Royal Navy.

HMS Dragon's redeployment came after France and Britain proposed multinational escort efforts to restore navigation in the Hormuz Strait.

French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is also heading toward the Red Sea, the French defense ministry said earlier this week.

Le Royaume-Uni envoie le destroyer HMS Dragon en Méditerranée orientale, dans le cadre des préparatifs d'une éventuelle mission multinationale visant à protéger la navigation dans le détroit d'Ormuz, ont rapporté samedi des médias britanniques.

Cette décision permettrait au destroyer de contribuer immédiatement, si nécessaire, à une future opération destinée à garantir la liberté de navigation dans cette voie maritime, a déclaré le ministère britannique de la Défense à Sky News.

Tout plan serait strictement défensif et viserait à rétablir la confiance pour le transport maritime commercial, a ajouté le ministère.

En mars, le navire avait été déployé en Méditerranée orientale pour entamer une "intégration opérationnelle" dans la défense de Chypre, selon la Royal Navy.

Ce redéploiement du HMS Dragon survient après que la France et le Royaume-Uni ont proposé des efforts d'escorte multinationale pour rétablir la navigation dans le détroit d'Ormuz.

Le porte-avions français Charles-de-Gaulle se dirige également vers la mer Rouge, a indiqué le ministère français de la Défense plus tôt cette semaine.

أفادت وسائل إعلام بريطانية، يوم السبت/9 مايو الجاري، بأن بريطانيا ستنشر في منطقة الشرق الأوسط المدمرة "إتش إم إس دراغون" الموجودة حاليا في البحر الأبيض المتوسط، ذلك استعدادا لمهمة دولية محتملة لحماية الملاحة عبر مضيق هرمز.

وذكرت شبكة "سكاي نيوز"، نقلا عن وزارة الدفاع البريطانية، أن هذه الخطوة ستتيح للمدمرة المساهمة الفورية، عند الحاجة، في عملية مستقبلية تهدف إلى ضمان حرية الملاحة في الممر المائي.

وأضافت الوزارة أن أي خطة ستكون دفاعية بحتة، وتهدف إلى استعادة ثقة السفن التجارية.

وفي مارس، نُشرت السفينة في شرق البحر الأبيض المتوسط ​​لبدء "الاندماج العملياتي" في الدفاعات القبرصية، وفقًا للبحرية الملكية.

وجاءت إعادة انتشار المدمرة البريطانية "دراغون" بعد أن اقترحت فرنسا وبريطانيا جهود مرافقة متعددة الجنسيات لاستعادة الملاحة في مضيق هرمز.

كما أعلنت وزارة الدفاع الفرنسية في وقت سابق من هذا الأسبوع أن حاملة الطائرات الفرنسية "شارل ديغول" تتجه أيضاً نحو البحر الأحمر.

Великобритания направит эсминец HMS Dragon из восточной части Средиземного моря на Средний Восток на фоне подготовки к возможной международной миссии по обеспечению безопасности судоходства через Ормузский пролив. Об этом 9 мая сообщили британские СМИ.

Этот шаг позволит эсминцу при необходимости немедленно принять участие в будущей операции, направленной на обеспечение свободы судоходства в этом водном пути, сообщает телеканал Sky News со ссылкой на Министерство обороны Великобритании.

Любой план будет носить исключительно оборонительный характер в интересах восстановления доверия к коммерческому судоходству, добавили в ведомстве.

El Reino Unido está enviando el destructor HMS Dragon desde el Mediterráneo oriental hacia Oriente Medio en el marco de los preparativos para una posible misión multinacional destinada a proteger la navegación a través del estrecho de Ormuz, informaron el sábado medios británicos.

Este movimiento permitiría al destructor contribuir de inmediato, en caso necesario, a una futura operación cuyo objetivo sería garantizar la libertad de navegación en la vía marítima, indicó el Ministerio de Defensa británico en declaraciones recogidas por Sky News.

Cualquier plan tendría un carácter estrictamente defensivo y estaría encaminado a restablecer la confianza del transporte marítimo comercial, añadió el ministerio.

En marzo, el buque fue desplegado en el Mediterráneo oriental para iniciar su “integración operativa” en las defensas de Chipre, según informó en su momento la Marina Real británica.

El redespliegue del HMS Dragon se produce después de que Francia y el Reino Unido propusieran esfuerzos conjuntos de escolta multinacional para restablecer la navegación en el estrecho de Ormuz.

El portaaviones francés Charles de Gaulle también se dirige hacia el mar Rojo, según informó a principios de esta semana el Ministerio de Defensa francés.
