U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner may visit Russia soon to continue talks with Russian officials on the Ukraine issue, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said on Sunday.
Ushakov said that although the United States is currently more focused on the Middle East crisis, Russia and the U.S. are maintaining active contact on the Ukraine issue by phone.
However, he also emphasized that if the Ukrainian troops do not withdraw from the Donbas region, mediation efforts for the Ukraine issue will remain at a standstill no matter how many rounds of negotiations are held.
Ushakov's remarks came after Russia and Ukraine agreed on Friday to a three-day ceasefire lasting through May 11, as well as a 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner swap.
Witkoff and Kushner last visited Moscow on Jan. 22 for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the Ukraine issue.
