Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic visited the prestigious Tsinghua University in Beijing on Tuesday, inviting Chinese students to visit his country and experience the 'ironclad' friendship between the two sides, while also hailing China's role as a responsible and stabilizing force in the world.

Vucic, who arrived in the Chinese capital on Sunday for a five-day state visit at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, was warmly welcomed by teachers and students at Tsinghua University, before delivering a speech.

Noting that international law and the rules-based order are facing unprecedented challenges as the world is becoming more turbulent, Vucic said Serbia fully supports the four global initiatives [on development, security, civilization and governance] proposed by China, and believes they are of vital importance for maintaining international peace, fairness and justice.

The Serbian president said China has set an example for other countries in the Global South in defending their sovereignty, rights and independence, and said he pays close attention to China's development and listens to China's voice on the international stage.

"Why [do] we see China as a stabilizing factor, as a gravity center of stability today? As China has principles, number one, which is UN Charter, UN resolutions, international public law. Number two, China is acting in a very responsible way, always seeking for peace, always asking all international players to keep tranquility, to keep stability and to keep peace," Vucic said.

When responding to questions from the students, Vucic highlighted the strong bond between the Serbian and Chinese peoples, and extended an invitation to everyone present to pay a visit to his country.

"I would like to invite all of you to Serbia to see why I believe in our 'ironclad' friendship. We like Chinese people, we like China. Without your support, we could have never ever been able to deliver good results," he said.

One day earlier, President Xi awarded Vucic with the Friendship Medal of the People's Republic of China in a grand presentation ceremony at the Great Hall of the People.

When asked how he felt about receiving this honor, the Serbian president said he was almost moved to tears.

"He (President Xi) actually delivered a decoration to me. I felt very proud, very dignified, and almost started to cry, to tell you the truth. But it's a big obligation for me in the future as well to invest even harder work into creating even better and stronger bonds," Vucic said.
