Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy on Monday released footage of its recent patrols in the Strait of Hormuz and confirmed a retaliatory missile strike on a vessel linked to U.S.-Israeli interests following a U.S. attack on Iranian ships in the Gulf of Oman.
According to Iranian sources, IRGC naval patrols in the Strait operate continuously as part of routine missions. The fast boats are tasked with directing maritime traffic and intercepting vessels that violate regulations or ignore warnings.
Mohsen Rezaei, military adviser to Iran's supreme leader, wrote on social media on Monday that the country's armed forces have "limited patience" when it comes to safeguarding national security and regional interests. Rezaei reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz is currently under Iranian control and stated Iran would not allow a continued maritime blockade or tolerating further escalation in Lebanon.
On Monday night local time, the IRGC announced it had launched a retaliatory cruise missile attack against a Panama-flagged "Sariska," a vessel described as belonging to U.S.-Israeli interests, after U.S. forces struck Iranian ships in the Gulf of Oman. The statement did not provide a specific time for the action.
The IRGC Navy emphasized that any aggressive act by any U.S. military forces in the region will be met with a decisive response.
Meanwhile, IRGC Quds Force commander Esmail Qaani said Israel's U.S.-backed military actions in Lebanon and Gaza would see the resistance front boost support for both fronts and "activate" other battlefronts, warning that conditions in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait will match those in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran tightened its grip on the strait in late February when it barred safe passage of vessels belonging to or affiliated with Israel and the United States following joint strikes on Iranian territory.
The United States imposed a blockade on the strait preventing ships from transiting to and from Iranian ports, following the failure of Iran-U.S. negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan, on April 11-12 to reach an agreement.
