China is ready to see what it can do to help in suitable ways in light of Venezuela's need after two powerful earthquakes hit the South American nation, foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Thursday in Beijing.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Guo responded to a media query about the earthquakes, both above magnitude 7, that jolted Venezuela late Wednesday and caused widespread destruction.

"China noted the reports about the earthquakes and offers its sympathies to the Venezuelan government and the affected population. We believe that under the leadership of the Venezuelan government, its people will recover and rebuild soon. We stand ready to see what we can do to help in suitable ways in light of Venezuela's need," said Guo.

China está dispuesta a brindar asistencia a Venezuela dentro de sus capacidades y de forma apropiada, conforme a las necesidades de la nación sudamericana, declaró el jueves el portavoz del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, Guo Jiakun.

En una rueda de prensa habitual, Guo respondió a una pregunta de los medios sobre los terremotos que sacudieron el miércoles Venezuela, causaron una destrucción generalizada, y cuyas operaciones de rescate aún continúan.
