Iran on Wednesday accused the United States of violating its commitments under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in mid June to end the war between the two countries.

Responding to U.S. President Donald Trump's earlier remarks that the MoU is over, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on social media that the MoU was never based on trust but on a clear mechanism of "commitment for commitment."

Based on the fifth clause of the memorandum, Iran is responsible for determining arrangements for the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, but the United States has challenged this clause and, in practice, violated the agreement's structure through its unilateral actions and attacks against Iran, Baghaei said.

The spokesman said Iran will resolutely defend its national interests and sovereignty.

Also on Wednesday, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the U.S. long-standing pressure campaign has collapsed.

Trump's statements, from insulting Iran to threatening further attack, are not a show of strength, but an admission of the failure of a policy built for years on coercion, sanctions, and threats, Gharibabadi wrote on social media.

The U.S. forces conducted strikes against Iran for a second straight day on Wednesday to "degrade" Iran's ability "to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," the U.S. Central Command said.

The United States is "holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway," the command said in a post on social media.

The strikes came after Trump warned at the NATO summit in Ankara earlier the same day that the U.S. military would probably hit Iran again.

The United States and Iran officially signed a 14-point MoU on June 17, 2026, aimed at halting hostilities. Brokered by Pakistan, the deal mandated a permanent ceasefire across all fronts, including Lebanon, and a framework to ease U.S. sanctions and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
