U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Saturday that two U.S. service members in Jordan were killed in Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks on Friday.
The command said it in a statement posted on social media platform X, adding that one service member remains missing in action and four others were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals.
Sixteen U.S. service members have been killed and more than 400 others were injured since the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran in late February.
According to a report by The New York Times on Saturday, U.S. officials said that Iran launched four attacks on U.S. military bases in Jordan in the past five days, which demonstrates that Iranian forces still possess extensive missile stockpiles and have improved its ability to evade U.S. air defense systems.
Friday's attack was the fourth on U.S. forces in Jordan in the past five days. Iran's first attack struck a residential facility at King Faisal Air Base, injuring five U.S. personnel. The second attack targeted a base in eastern Jordan, damaging several U.S. Black Hawk helicopters.
The two most recent attacks occurred at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in eastern Jordan. In the third attack, approximately 20 U.S. personnel were injured while running for cover, with no one killed.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced in a statement on Saturday that it launched missile and drone attacks on fighter jet bunkers and large parking aprons at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, destroying at least two fighter jets and three other aircraft, and causing serious damage to several other aircraft.
