Andy Burnham is expected to be appointed the United Kingdom's new prime minister on Monday after Keir Starmer formally steps down.

Burnham was confirmed as leader of the ruling Labour Party on Friday, securing nominations from 379 Labour MPs, or around 94 percent of the parliamentary party.

Burnham returned to parliament after winning the Makerfield by-election, whose result was declared on June 19. Starmer announced his resignation as Labour leader on June 22, saying he would remain prime minister until his successor was chosen.

Having served as mayor of Greater Manchester for nearly a decade, Burnham promises to apply his experience across Britain, which means stronger local government, closer coordination between public investment and private capital, and greater public control over essential services.

As he prepares to become Britain's seventh prime minister in just over a decade, all eyes are now on Burnham. Public reaction has been largely positive.

"I'm feeling positive about it. I think there's a lot of things that we don't know yet, but I think I like that he's taking a different approach, and I think he's got a lot of people behind him for that. I think he's very charismatic," said one resident.

"Keir Starmer did a really good job, but he's not camera facing. He can't get his message across, although what he did was really well done. Andy Burnham seems to be much more camera friendly and I think that's the world we live in," another London resident said.

Andy Burnham sera nommé Premier ministre du Royaume-Uni lundi, après la démission officielle de Keir Starmer.

M. Burnham a été confirmé vendredi comme nouveau chef du parti travailliste, avec le soutien de 379 députés, soit environ 94 % du groupe parlementaire.

Il est revenu au Parlement après sa victoire à l'élection partielle de Makerfield, dont le résultat a été annoncé le 19 juin. Starmer a démissionné le 22 juin, tout en restant en poste jusqu'à la désignation de son successeur.

Ancien maire du Grand Manchester pendant près de dix ans, Burnham promet d'appliquer son expérience à l'échelle nationale, en renforçant les collectivités locales, en coordonnant investissements publics et capitaux privés, et en renforçant le contrôle public sur les services essentiels.

Andy Burnham será nombrado nuevo primer ministro del Reino Unido el lunes, tras la renuncia formal de Keir Starmer.

El viernes, Burnham fue confirmado como líder del gobernante Partido Laborista, tras conseguir las nominaciones de 379 diputados laboristas, lo que representa aproximadamente el 94 por ciento del grupo parlamentario.

　英国では、スターマー首相の辞任に伴い、与党・労働党の党首選が17日に行われ、マンチェスターの前市長で下院議員のバーナム氏が新党首に選出された。20日に新首相に就任する。

　バーナム氏は先月19日に開票結果が公表された下院補選で勝利し、国政復帰を果たした。そして、17日の党首選で、党所属下院議員の約94%にあたる379人と、労働組合などからの推薦を獲得し、無投票で党首に選出された。

Burnham wurde am Freitag als Vorsitzender der regierenden Labour-Partei bestätigt. Er konnte sich die Nominierungen von 379 Labour-Abgeordneten sichern, was rund 94 Prozent der Fraktion entspricht.
