Greece is experiencing its first wave of extreme heat this summer starting on Monday, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius across many parts of the country.

As residents adjust their daily routines to cope with the scorching conditions, a range of cooling strategies and lifestyle adaptations have become essential.

In residential neighborhoods, Greek households keep their shutters closed during daylight hours to block direct sunlight from entering their homes, achieving a natural cooling effect.

Beyond physical cooling methods such as closing shutters and setting up awnings, air conditioning has become standard equipment in many Greek homes.

According to incomplete statistics, Greece's air-conditioning ownership rate now stands at 70 percent due to consistently high summer temperatures.

To avoid the midday heat, Greeks adjust their summer schedules. Outside of tourist areas, the official "quiet hours" run from 15:00 to 17:30. During this period, playing loud music, making excessive noise, playing musical instruments, and loading or unloading goods are prohibited near residential areas to ensure people can rest peacefully. Violators face police warnings and potential fines.

Pharmacies operate from 8:00 to 14:00, close for a mid-afternoon break, and reopen at 17:30 until 20:30. Many shops across Greece follow the similar operating hours.

Due to the observance of daylight saving time, sunset in Greece occurs later, and dinner times are pushed back accordingly -- often not starting until 20:00 or even 21:00, when the air has cooled down.

In recent years, affected by climate change, Greece has experienced heat waves with increasing frequency during summer. The periods of extreme heat have grown longer and arrived earlier. Greeks have been compelled to employ every possible heat prevention and cooling measure to cope with the changing conditions.

تشهد اليونان أول موجة حر شديدة هذا الصيف، حيث ارتفعت درجات الحرارة إلى ما يزيد عن 40 درجة مئوية في أجزاء كثيرة من البلاد ابتداءً من يوم الاثنين/ 20 يوليو الجاري.

ومع قيام السكان بتعديل حياتهم اليومية للتكيف مع الظروف الحارقة، أصبحت مجموعة من استراتيجيات التبريد وتعديلات نمط الحياة ضرورية.

وفي الأحياء السكنية، تحرص الأسر اليونانية على إبقاء النوافذ مغلقة خلال ساعات النهار لمنع أشعة الشمس المباشرة من دخول منازلهم، مما يحقق تأثير تبريد طبيعي.

وإلى جانب أساليب التبريد المادية مثل إغلاق الستائر وتركيب المظلات، أصبح تكييف الهواء من المعدات الأساسية في العديد من المنازل اليونانية.

وبحسب إحصاءات غير مكتملة، فإن معدل امتلاك أجهزة تكييف الهواء في اليونان يبلغ الآن 70 في المائة بسبب ارتفاع درجات الحرارة الصيفية باستمرار.

ولتجنب حرارة الظهيرة، يُعدّل اليونانيون جداولهم الصيفية. خارج المناطق السياحية، تمتد "ساعات الهدوء" الرسمية الساعة 15:00 إلى 17:30. خلال هذه الفترة، يُمنع تشغيل الموسيقى الصاخبة، وإحداث ضوضاء مفرطة، والعزف على الآلات الموسيقية، وتحميل أو تفريغ البضائع بالقرب من المناطق السكنية لضمان راحة السكان بهدون، ويواجه المخالفون إنذارات من الشرطة وغرامات محتملة.

كما تعمل الصيدليات من الساعة 8:00 حتى 14:00، وتغلق لفترة استراحة في فترة ما بعد الظهيرة، ثم تعاود العمل من الساعة 17:30 حتى 20:30. وتتبع العديد من المتاجر في جميع أنحاء اليونان ساعات عمل مماثلة.

وبسبب تطبيق التوقيت الصيفي، يتأخر غروب الشمس في اليونان، وتتأخر أوقات العشاء تبعاً لذلك، إذ لا تبدأ حتى الساعة 20:00 أو حتى 21:00 عندما يبرد الجو.

Грецию 20 июля накрыла первая волна летней экстремальной жары, температура во многих частях страны поднялась выше 40 градусов Цельсия.

Местные жители активно адаптируются к аномально жаркой погоде – в жилых районах ставни на окнах днем держат закрытыми, чтобы блокировать попадание прямых солнечных лучей в дома, а также используют солнечные навесы.

Также обязательным атрибутом домов греков становятся кондиционеры. По неполным статистическим данным, уровень владения кондиционерами в Греции сейчас составляет 70% в связи с жаркой погодой летом.

Чтобы избежать полуденного зноя, греки также корректируют свой ежедневный график. За пределами туристических зон официальные "часы тишины" действуют с 15:00 до 17:30. В этот период запрещается громкая музыка, чрезмерный шум, игра на музыкальных инструментах, а также погрузка и разгрузка товаров вблизи жилых районов, чтобы люди могли спокойно отдыхать. Grecia atraviesa desde el lunes la primera ola de calor extremo de este verano, con temperaturas que superan los 40 grados centígrados en amplias zonas del territorio. Mientras la población adapta sus rutinas cotidianas para hacer frente al calor abrasador, una serie de medidas refrescantes y ajustes en el estilo de vida se han vuelto imprescindibles.

En los barrios residenciales, los hogares griegos mantienen cerradas las persianas durante las horas de luz para impedir la entrada de radiación solar directa y conseguir un efecto de refrigeración natural dentro de las viviendas.

Además de medidas de refrigeración pasiva como el cierre de persianas y la instalación de toldos, el aire acondicionado se ha convertido en un equipamiento estándar en numerosos hogares griegos. Según estadísticas no oficiales, la tasa de disponibilidad de aire acondicionado en Grecia alcanza actualmente el 70 por ciento, motivada por las constantes altas temperaturas estivales.

Para evitar el calor del mediodía, los griegos modifican sus horarios veraniegos. Fuera de las zonas turísticas, el "horario de silencio oficial" rige entre las 15:00 y las 17:30. Durante este periodo, queda prohibido reproducir música a alto volumen, generar ruidos excesivos, tocar instrumentos musicales, así como cargar o descargar mercancías en las proximidades de las zonas residenciales, con el fin de garantizar el descanso tranquilo de las personas. Los infractores podrán recibir advertencias policiales y ser sancionados con multas.

Las farmacias abren de 8:00 a 14:00, cierran para el descanso de media tarde y vuelven a abrir de 17:30 a 20:30. Numerosos comercios de todo el país siguen horarios de apertura semejantes.

Debido a la aplicación de horario de verano, el ocaso llega más tarde en Grecia y, por consiguiente, se retrasa la hora de la cena: esta suele empezar no antes de las 20:00, incluso las 21:00, cuando la temperatura ambiental ha bajado.

En los últimos años, bajo la influencia del cambio climático, Grecia registra olas de calor veraniegas con una frecuencia creciente. Los episodios de calor extremo duran más y se producen con mayor antelación. Los griegos se ven obligados a adoptar todas las medidas de prevención del calor y refrigeración a su alcance para adaptarse a estas nuevas condiciones climáticas.
