China's logistics demand maintained steady growth in the first half of the year, supported by industrial upgrading and resilient high-end manufacturing, official data showed Wednesday.
The total value of national social logistics reached 181.1 trillion yuan (about 26.7 trillion U.S. dollars) in the January-June period, up 5.1 percent year on year, outpacing GDP growth by 0.4 percentage points over the same period, according to data from the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing.
Demand for logistics services grew 6.2 percent in the first quarter and 4.4 percent in the second quarter, the data showed.
The federation's deeper analysis found that this demand is not only driving the growth of volumes, but comprehensively reshaping the sector.
"While the total volume of social logistics has been growing steadily, a notable structural shift is taking place within the sector. Demand for social logistics in areas such as high-end manufacturing, equipment technology, and consumer goods for daily living is outpacing that of traditional logistics. The trends toward internationalization, high-end development, and green practices are becoming increasingly pronounced," Zhou Zhicheng, spokesperson for the CFLP.
During the first six months, the volume of industrial product logistics were up 5.4 percent. The gains were led by high-tech manufacturing and digital product manufacturing, which posted growth rates of 13.3 percent and 12.3 percent, respectively, as new quality productive forces continued to gain momentum.
On the import side, logistics for semiconductor manufacturing equipment and integrated circuits rose 20.4 percent and 8.1 percent, respectively, while imports of crude oil and steel dropped 11.4 percent and 11.3 percent amid global commodity price fluctuations and shifting domestic demand.

Meanwhile, steady growth in recyclable resource logistics, including industrial solid waste utilization and power battery recycling, indicates a continued trend toward demand for low-carbon and efficient logistics. The segment expanded by 5.4 percent year on year, slightly faster than the overall logistics growth rate.
