The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said it completed "a heavy wave of strikes" against Iran at 22:00 Eastern Time on Wednesday in response to Iran's attempted missile attacks.
According to CENTCOM, U.S. forces started their operations at 20:00 Eastern Time and struck dozens of targets belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), including military command centers, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defense sites, and maritime capabilities.
More than 50,000 U.S. service members are currently deployed to the Middle East and remain "highly vigilant, focused, lethal, and ready," CENTCOM said.
Iranian media reported Thursday that the U.S. military attacks struck areas of Iran's southern Hormozgan province, including Qeshm Island and Kish Island.
Citing officials of Hormozgan, Iranian media said a location near Qeshm was attacked by the U.S. and that assessments were underway. On Kish Island, two loud blasts were heard but local administrators said no damage was recorded to urban infrastructure or residential neighborhoods, while transport links and airport operations were not disrupted.
The attacks come just a day after Iran struck U.S. targets in Jordan. Early on Wednesday, the Iranian Aerospace Force launched strikes toward a U.S. air base and Central Command center in Jordan in response to "acts of aggression" by the United States, according to IRGC statements published on its news outlet Sepah News.
The U.S. had paused air operations against Iran on July 24, after 13 consecutive days of strikes. However, on Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump vowed twice that the U.S. would retaliate forcefully against Iran in response to Tehran's ballistic missile attacks on U.S. forces in the Middle East.
